LIVING IN BOLIQUEIME
AREA OF BOLIQUEIME
COUNCIL: LOULÉ, LOCATION: RURAL COUNTRY SIDE
Living in the area of Boliqueime is living in the countryside just away from the busy coast.
It offers you the best of both worlds. On the one-hand it has a typical Algarve village which dates back to the 12th century, set in a quiet countryside location and perfect for that get-away-from-it-all feel. On the other hand its close proximity to the lively coastal resorts of Vilamoura, Olhos d’Agua and Albufeira make it ideal if you want plenty of things to see and do during the day and or night
The area has a great mixture of Portuguese and other nationalities.

This area is wonderful for walkers and bikers as it offers unspoiled nature. Don’t be surprised to see a shepherd with his herd passing the street, a donkey in a field or chicken walking around.
Boliqueime has a strong village atmosphere where people know each other and meet up for a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at the end of the day in the centre of the village. The area has various restaurants. For “haute cuisine” one has to drive 15 minutes but in the area itself there are several traditional restaurants and bistros
The properties in this area are of different styles. Traditional Algavian villas, renovated farmhouses, modern design. From luxurious estates to small Quintas. Price range varies; but as the Boliqueime parish is quite popular , average prices are slightly higher than other inland areas. The holiday rental possibilities in this area are good.
The bijou village itself has a church at its heart and a beautiful square. The roads leading from the village are flanked by white-painted farm houses with filigree chimneys, so typical of the Algarve.
There are many narrow streets that still have cobble stone. Boliqueime has remnants of wealth in the past, evidence of Merchant´s houses with stone door surrounds, wrought iron balconies and window grills. The centre and church were rebuilt in 1755 after the earthquake.
Today the area has many new “locals” building up a business keeping traditions high and showing their appreciation for the Portuguese life and habits.
The area of Boliqueime has fields full of almond trees and other fruit trees. Many Portuguese still have orange groves. The almond blossom is truly a sight to behold. The same for the smell of the orange blossom.
